De-concentration of power to the local level in Pakistan: empowering for change in a tribal society of North West Frontier Province (DPLL)


Project Goal:
Community Based Organizations in the Palas Valley empowered through having the knowledge, skills, legal recognition and institutional strength to claimtheir rights and manage their forest resources sustainable for self-determined development.

Purpose:
Community Based Organizations in the Palas Valley empowered through having the knowledge, skills, legal recognition and institutional strength to claim their rights and manage their forest resources sustainable for self-determined development.

This project is:
Building capacity in newly formed Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and Community Citizen Boards (CCBs) so that they can become effective institutions for local
decision-makingandself-helpdevelopment;

Networking CBOs at Valley level to form an 'All-Palas' Federation for coordinated decision-making and enhanced bargainingpower;

Raising awareness among people of the Palas Valley of the rights and opportunities for development provided through government policy onlocal council development funding;

Supporting a process through which CBOs and CCBs work effectively with key government departments to enhance service delivery and to best manage the development of natural resources of the Palas Valley for social and economic benefit (povertyalleviation);

Building capacity in the Forest Department and the Wildlife Department to support participatory, integrated development based on the sustainable use of the Palas Valley's natural resources.
