Highlights – April 2005
· Prepared annual work plan for the year April 2005 – March 2006 and quarterly work plan for the quarter April – June 2005 in consultation with Palas Conservation and Development Federation and Kohistan Wildlife Unit.

· Held a meeting with All Palas Federation regarding preparation of awareness material regarding NTFPs of the Valley.

· Facilitated Federation in distribution of relief goods sent by Sungi Development Foundation and in holding a meeging with Oxfam at Serghazi Abad for assessment of damages done by natural disaster in the valley.

A Lecture in Promary School

During the meeting six union councils including all four of the upper Palas valley, Ber Sheryal and Kunsher were identified for distribution of relief goods.

· Conducted lectures in Government primary school sharakot and Government Middle school, Paraghari regarding NTFPs of Palas valley and importance of their sustainable use.

· Conducted awareness session in Badakot regarding importance of NTFPs. During the session the people were told that besides timber forests provide us with a wide range of NTFPs for meeting our daily requirements.

· Conducted awareness sessions with communities in Paro and Shared and awareness was created among 50 people in both localities.

· Held meeting with Palas Conservation and Development Federation for selection of sites for installation of demonstration plots of medicinal plants in the Valley and prepared ToPs for installation of demonstration plots on medicinal plants with the farmers.

 
     
     
      Highlights – May 2005  
     
·· Held meetings with Nursery grower group and farmer in Badakot for raising of nursery for Persimmon and Loquat and signed a ToP with the farmer showing the responsibilities of the farmer and that of the Project for establishment of the nursery.

· Raised nursery of Persimmon and Loquat in Badakot on about 15 x 30 feet plot.

· Held meetings with CBOs of Sharakot and Karoser for installation of demonstration plots of medicinal plots in Sharakot, Karoser and Shuki Ser and signed ToPs with the farmers in these villages.

· Installed demonstration plots of Viola serpens and Polygonum amplexicaule in Sharakot and Viola, Polygonum, Valeriana, Paeonia emodi and Podophyllum hexandrum in Karoser and Shukiser and trained the former in post installation management of the plots.

· Conducted lectures in Government high school Sharakot and Government primary school, SerghaziAbad regarding importance of NTFPs.

· Conducted awareness sessions with communities in Karoser, Sharakot and Shukiser.
· Conducted exposure visit of community members, Federation members and staff of Kohistan Wildlife Unit to Swat. Held meetings with Mountain Areas Conservancy Project, HUJRA, EPS, WWF and communities in Miandam and Kalam. The team also visited medicinal plants nursery in Miandam and experimental plots of medicinal plants, established by community members under guidance and support of MACP, in Kalam.

· Facilitated PCDF in distribution of relief goods provided by Oxfam through Sungi Development Foundation. These goods were distributed among people in six union councils including four of the upper palas, Bersheryal and Kunsher.

· Held a training on collection, processing and marketing of Morel mushroom in Kuz Paro in which 25 people were trained.


 
      Highlights – June 2005  
     

· Follow up of demonstration plots in Badakot, Sharakot , Shuki Ser and Karoser.

· Held meeting with CBOs of Ber Sheryal for installation of demonstration plots of medicinal plants in Ber Sheryal and signed ToP with the farmer.

Community Training

· Installed demonstration plot of Matricaria in Ber Sheryal and trained the former in post installation management of the plot.

· Conducted lectures in Government Primary School, Sharakot and government middle school Paraghari regarding importance of NTFPs.

· Conducted awareness sessions with communities in Peach Belqa, Dumbela and Hisar villages.

Debate Competition

· Held a debate competition on “Importance of medicinal plants” among the students of schools in the Valley at High School Sharakot. Saleem Ullah, Masood ul Mulk, Saeed uz Zaman, Rab Nawaz, Tehsil Nazim , Palas, Assistant District Education Officer, Palas Circle, Social Organizer, BADP, District Officer, Tawana Pakistan, representatives from NGOs in District Kohistan and large number of Palasi people were present on the occasion. At the end of the competition, prizes were distributed among the students.

· Arranged visit of Saleem Ullah and Masood Ul Mulk to the Valley and gave a detailed presentation on the progress of the project to them. Federation members, representatives from local government and education department also participated in the meeting.

· Organized a training on collection, processing and marketing of Morel mushroom in Peach Bela in which people from Peach Bela, Hisar, Dumbela, Hukum Abad and Pul Bela participated. About 27 people were trained in the training.
