Rehabilitation of irrigation water channel as tool for conflict resolution
There was social resentment in between the families of Malkan Khail and Audal Khel in the Kundal Bar Palas. The fued continued for so many years. The families of Malkan Khail were living in Rawalpindi Punjab and the main cause was the fued.

Palas Conservation and Development Project facilitated the formation of community-based organization Kundal in November 2001. The CBO Kundal passed a resolution on 19th May 2002 that PCDP must technically and financially assist our community in the rehabilitation of irrigation water channel. The irrigation was in use some 50 years back but at the time it was not functioning and even disappeared.

The CBO and PCDP signed the terms of Partnership agreement on 26th June 2002 and IRD started construction work with the active participation of community on the channel. The Project rehabilitated 1500 feet irrigation channel but in the mean time the family Malkan Khail represented by Mr Aurang Zeb residing in the Rwalpindii came to know about the construction of channel.

They stayed the work because the channel was passing through his land and put the condition to the CBO that first resolve our conflict and then I will allow the construction of the channel.

The construction was stopped temporarily. CBO took about six month on the conflict resolution and finally, they succeeded in resolving the conflict. Now both the families are demonstrating social harmony and the irrigation water channel was rehabilitated with the active participation of the community.

The rehabilitation of irrigation water channel played the role of catalytic agent in the conflict resolution in Kundal.
